The main aim of Strategies is to provide the learner of English with the language skills that may be required for, and are relevant to, a wide rangé of communicative situations. The approach to language learning adopted in this book is therefore, in many senses, very different from that of the traditional structurally graded textbook: in these materials the criteria for grading are primarily functional and secondarily structural. Strategies aims to present an English Language Learning scheme in such a way that the student will see the immediate practical application of what he is learning while covering the more important structures of the language in a graded sequence. These materials are designed for the pre-intermediate student, but are constructed in such a way that they may be used at a wide variety of levels for reinforcement, for motivation, and for introducing new concepts, functions or structures. A set of tapes or cassettes covers all the oral exercises. The dialogues and the collection of songs (Skyhigh) may be obtained separately on cassette tapes. The songs are alsó available on tape or on a 12" L.P. Disc.
