SPARKENBROKE Mr. Charles Morgan's növel, which has a contemporary scene in Italy, London and the English countryside, is a tale of Piers Tenniel, Lord Sparkenbroke, poet and story-teller; of George Hardy, remarkable in contrast for the plain integrity of his character and the steadfastness of his affectionsj and of Mary, who, in a conflict of her nature, loves and is loved by these two friends. Though the book is not, as narrative, connected with any previous tale, it will be recognised by readers of The Fonntain and Portrait in a Mirror as being related to them in theme. The thought contained in them is here gathered together and extended. In this sense, the three novels form a group, marking a period in the continuity of its author's work. Vissza
