This book describes the present day educational system of France, and gives an account of the background. It deals with the historical, social, economic and political aspects of the educational reforms which were introduced in 1959 and which are still in progress. The work describes how France is moving away from a privileged system to one based on equality of opportunity, and how educational institutions are being gradually transformed.
