All the pictures in this book are aerial photographs aimed at presenting a graphic, structural and abstract perspective of Israel, making use of the special light which illuminates the country at different times of day and in different seasons. The unique angle from which the photographs have been taken lends a different appearance to objects that we have thus far known only in a routine way. Most of the photographs were taken from a Robinson helicopter and the remainder from light aircraft where the door was removed for the convenience of the photographers. The helicopter afforded greater maneuverability at low speeds and allowed the photographers to get closer to the scenes photographed. Most of the pictures were taken with Hasselbiad (6 x 6) and Pentax (6 x 7) cameras using an intennediate format. To compensate for the speed of the flight, extremely fast shutter speeds were used. The key to good photography of this kind, even more than in ordinaiv photography, is good lighting.... Tovább

The key to good photography of this kind, even more than in ordinaiv photography, is good lighting. In order to accentuate the relief and the textures of the landscape, early morning and sunset illumination are essential. To make best use of this light, and to compensate for the haze which increases with altitude and distance from the object being photographed, filters were used. In order to take photographs from the desired angle and with the correct illumination and timing, three preconditions had to be met: painstaking planning, optimum weather conditions, and good teamwork.

Moni Haramati was born in 1950 in Kibbutz Giv'at Hayyim Ihud and grew up in Jerusalem, where he graduated from the Hebrew University High School. In the IDF he served in an Air Force helicopter squadron and flew on all fronts in the Yom Kippur War. He was discharged in 1975. While working as a cropdusting pilot, he took a course in professional photography. At that time he founded Monami, Ltd., a company through which he intended to unify his two passions, aviation and photography, and provide flight and photography services, mainly for the production of films.
Duby Tal was bom in Israel in 1955 and grew up in Qiryat Ono, where he graduated high school. After serving in the Air Force as a helicopter pilot, he completed a Bachelor's degree in geology at the Hebrew University, Jerusalem, concurrently studying photography at Camera Obscura. While studying for his Master's degree, he made photography a profession rather than a hobby. In 1986 he became a freelance photographer specializing in nature and landscape photography. Vissza
