SERENGETI
Natural Order on the African Plain MITSUAKIIWAGO
The Serengeti National Park stretches for endless miles across the wilds of East Africa. A world of calm beauty and quick violence, it is home to over two million animals and witness to daily dramas of life and death played against a background of sublime grandeur.
For eighteen months photographer Mitsuaki Iwago lived in the park, recording on film its teeming wildlife and spectacular landscapes. Nearly 300 astonishingly dramatic colour photographs reveal powerful images of nature at its most savagely beautiful. Gazelles flee from a raging forest fire; a new-bom zebra takes his first uncertain steps; a lioness defends her hard-won feast against a marauding pack of hyenas; a hippo yawns in the afternoon sun. And in a magnificent series of images, Mitsuaki Iwago traces the annual migration of wildebeest from the wooded northern hills to the vast plain in the southern reaches of the park, where they spend the winter rainy...

And in a magnificent series of images, Mitsuaki Iwago traces the annual migration of wildebeest from the wooded northern hills to the vast plain in the southern reaches of the park, where they spend the winter rainy season. Thousands die en route, trampled by the rest ofthe herd, their carcasses scavenged by hyenas and vultures.
With the onset of rain the parched earth turns to a lush carpet of green, densely populated with thousands of species of birds and animals. Giraffes, elephants and rhinoceroses share the riches of the re-bom land with leopards, baboons, flamingoes and a host of other creatures.
Mitsuaki Iwago provides, with consummate skill, a breathtaking tribute to a land of unsurpassable natural beauty.
