When the new edition of this classic wine book, edited by Serena Sutcliffe M.W., was published in 1981 it was widely acclaimed on both sides of the Atlantic and hailed as the wine book ofthe year. Now it is published for the first time in paperback. Fourteen contributors, acknowledged experts in their own areas, have been brought together by the General Editoi; Serena Sutcliffe, one ofthe first women Masters ofWine, to provide up-to-date information on all the wine-producing regions of the world, divided into the following chapters: France; Germany; Italy; The Tablewines of Spain and Portugal; Sherry; Port; Madeira; Other Vinelands of the World, including England; North America, including a large section on California; South America; Australia; New Zealand; and South Africa.
The text of over 300,000 words is an indispensable source of reference on the world's grapes, vineyards and the wines they produce. Classifications and quality hierarchy are discussed, top wines, estates and producers and shippers indicated. Vintages of a great number ofthe world's best wines are described. There are also twenty-nine detailed maps and over fifty superb colour plates, plus an extensive bibliography and detailed index.
Serena Sutcliffe is a Master ofWine and international wine broker and consultant. She travels the world's vineyards, and selects wines from some ofthe greatest estates as well as from country growers. Her job as a taster also involves her in extensive international jury panels and she is a member of the International Wine and Food Society's Wine Committee. She lectures on wine both
in Great Britain and the United States, and is a regular contributor to many winejournals and publications. She is Wine Correspondent for BBC Radio London, and frequently broadcasts and
appears on television in Great Britain, America and France. Serena Sutcliffe has also edited and co-authored Great Vineyards and Winemakers, and written The Wine Drinker's Handbook. She is married to David Peppercorn M.W. - a vinous blend which they describe as 'beatific!

In 1981 it was updated by Serena Sutcliffe and other contributors to become an invaluable book of reference.' - Rosemary George M.W., International Wine and Food SocietyJournal.
'For anyone wanting to know more about the current complicated state of play in the world of wine, this is the book to buy" - Colin Parnell, Decanter.
