Graduateci from the Technical University of Budapest as an engineer, Janos Bogardi continued his studies at Iowa University | USA. Both his doctoral thesis and hiš Ph. D. were based on extensive research into the theories of sediment transport. Al-though he has studied various aspeets of water power utilization, his chief interest has always been the theory of sediment move-| ment.
At present he is a professor at the Technical University of Budapest, and is frequently invi'ted as visiting professor to deliver lectures at various universities <in Europe as well as overseas. He has been holding regulär classés at the Hydrological Extension Course of Padova University ever since 1966.
His professional advice has been asked on several occasions by various specialized agencies of the UN (FAO, WMO, IAEA, UNESCO). Professor Bogardi is an active member of several international scientific societies, and an Honorary Doctor of the Vienna Technical Universit/. 1n 1973 he was...

SEDIMENT TRANSPORT IN ALLUVIAL STREAMS
BY
JÁNOS BOGÁRDI
A concise review is presented in this book of the latest knowledge on sediment movement, on sediment transportation in streams, on river training and on the dynamics of nat-ural channels in generál. The first part deals with the theoret-ical problems of sediment movement, the second with the interrelations of sediment and the water course, while the third is devoted to the results of sediment investigations and measure-ments, indicating also the practical applications thereof. Besides the research achievements of the author and other investigators in Hungary, ail papers of major interest published in the relevant literature have been taken info considération. The illustrative material has been se-lected to facilitate the ready under-standing of the most difficult theoret-ical treatment and, owing to its completeness, is a spécial asset of this book.
The book has been written primarily for the hydraulic engineer, but will prove useful to ail experts engaged in various fields of water engineering.
