Another chapter describes the complex nature of our solar system, and includes spectacular photographs recently received of Saturn, Mars, and Jupiter. Anothei chapter describes the achievements of space exploration, from the first Sputnik in 195 7 to the Space Shutde of today. In spite of the great deal known about space today, there are still plenty of unsolved mysteries. The author discusses such phenomena as black holes, quasars, pulsars, antimatter, red giants, white dwarfs, and neutrinos, with numerous specially commissioned diagrams to support his explanations. Another chapter deals with the formation of the universe, its present state, and even its possible cataclysmic destruction. There are alsó artists' impressions of the incredible, but totally feasible, starships and space wars of the future, and a final chapter in which the author weighs the possibility that life on Earth is not an isolated phenomena, and asks: What are scientists doing to listen-and send radio messages- to other worlds ? The complete book not only presents the tremendoüs amount we now know about the cosmos, but alsó turns a searching eye toward the unsolved secrets of space. Vissza
