The goals proposed by Bush- federal support for seientifie research and a role for scientists in poliey making-have been more than fulfilled. Indeed, now that support for seientifie research has become the fastest growing seetor of the federal budget and scientists, including the new breed of "seientifie strategists," have become men of political consequenees, science and scientists inereasingly are objeets of political serutiny and publie concern. In the present study of scientists and national poliey making, ten scholars examine major aspects of this subject.
