" carry the contemporary methods of book production to new high levels of excellence. . These sketches reflect the broad approach of the text, where discussion of certain social, religious and historical aspects of the countries concerned should help teachers who work ^n a curriculum that integrates geography with other subjects." ^

In this book the author draws upon his own long periods of geographical field study within this area of peninsulas and islands. A vivid and stimulating impression of these unique lands is outlined by a text which allows the development of certain significant scenes and topics in detail, while at the same time giving a lead to the broader survey. Since it is hoped that the reader will throughout this series be developing a geographical approach, new techniques and a wider vocabulary, there are features deliberately included within the text and/or illustrative maps, diagrams and pictures which are different from those used, for instance, in SOUTH ASIA. Many of these features will suggest new ways of "finding out".
As with other titles in this series, the author, artist, and designer have collaborated carefully to make the book up to date and meaningful, while at the same time attractive and interesting to use.
