It was the biggest decade for movies since the halcyon days of the thirties and forties; the decade when audiences went back to the movies again, and movies made more money than ever before in history. It was the decade of EX, the most profitable movie ever made, and it was the decade of the video revolution when everyone started watching movies again. It was the decade when Hollywood's greed and profligacy knew no bounds, and it was the decade that created the richest and most powerful stars of all time.
• Director Steven Spielbeig, who grew up loving Walt Disney movies, woke up one morning at the Cannes Film Festival to discover his childhood dream of a movie was on its way to becoming the most profitable motion picture in history.
• Eddie Murphy, a Long Island comedian who went into the premiere of his first movie convinced it was the bomb that would ruin his career, only to emeige two hours later the biggest star of the eighties.
