Dieticians have recently rediscovered the Mediterranean way of eating and have found that it is a good way to better health. They have found that a diet based on bread, oUve oil, garlic, onions, cereals of all kinds especially pasta, fruit, vegetables, wine and white meat in moderation is an answer to many of our modern illnesses such as cancer and heart disease.

Robin Howe was born in London in 1908 and went to a convent school, where she was brought up on prunes and rice. At the age of nineteen she went to Germany to learn German, but at the same time became interested in German cooking and took a cookery course in Berlin. Her second book was on German cooking.
When she married a journalist, they went to live in Vienna. Robin switched her interest to Viennese cooking and did the same again when they moved to Budapest. Her husband's occupation then took her to Egypt, the Middle East, Turkey, Greece and later to India, As a world traveller she took an interest in each country's cooking, making notes on which to base her books as well as enjoying the food.
There is hardly a country which she has not covered and as a result she is the author of twenty-five books. In 1970 Robin and her husband Ted moved to a small town on the Italian Riviera, where they are still living.
