The need for weli-planned, structurally-graded materials for the teachíng of English as a foreign language has been wideiy recognized and the aim of this new series is to provide such materials for comprehension and composition work. The books have been graded into the same six stages as Longman Structural Readers and can be used successfuliy with any standard course for secondary school or aduit students, Initially there will betwo books at each ievel: one with fictional passages and one with factual passages. As a result of the careful ptanning of the series it will be found that comprehension work can be introdueed successfuliy at a very early stage in a course and passages have deiiberately been kept short to enable íhem to be completed within the time-limits of an average lesson. Basically each book consists of two-page units: on the lefthand page a passage of from 50 to 350 words depending on the stage folíowed by short guided composition exercises, and on the right-hand page... The firsttwo múltiple choice questions test comprehension of the meaning of the text and the others concentrate on structural words and lexical items. There is alsó a short exercise in sentence structure. A teacher's book is in preparation which will contain a key to the exercises in the students' books and notes on the most effective methods of presenting the matéria! in the classroom. Vissza
