is a first növel and a very remarkable one — vivid, eloquent, poeticái, glowing with an inner flame of emotion. One hesitates to say how good it is, not only because in freshness and truth of substance this is the type of first növel that everybody is reputed to be able to write, but alsó because such great gifts as Mr. Llewellyn displays have their consum-mation in a certain austerity of sense and feeling which he does not as yet possess. "A noble növel . . . it succeeds as very few novels do in presenting a little world of intensely real men and women and the intricacies of the humán heart."
