Richárd Clayderman was born in Paris on December 28th, 1953, the son of a piano teacher. He was given an old piano by his grandfather when he was six, and learned to play so quickly that within two years he was entering - and winning - local competitions. At the age of twelve, he was accepted at the Paris conservatoire of Music where, at sixteen he won First Prize in the Piano Competition. A career as a classical concert pianist looked imminent. Then...he cfecided to give it all up, turning to contemporary music instead. Since then Richárd Clayderman has done virtually what no other French musician has ever before aceomplished: to establish a truly international career, not only as a best-selling artist, bnt as a concert performer as well. And, at the same time, achieving massive worldwide, record sales in excess of 44 millión, with an incredible 188 Gold and 51 Platinum Discs to his credit as the last count.
