Mr. Costain has written an introduction to each story for the collection, properly setting the mood and scene and providing a number of personal observations and comments. Many of the stories are recently published; all are brilliant, imaginative, and different.
Thomas B. Costain read thousands of short stories during his years as an editor of the Saturday Evening Post. He later beeame an editor at Double-day and Company, and began his brilliant career as a novelist and histórián. He is the author of the four-volume narrative history of the Plantagenets and of such widely read novels as The Silver Chalice and The Last Love. Mr. Costain was born in Canada and now lives in New York City.
