PUPPIES
A puppy of almost any imaginable breed pedigree or mongrel holds for many of us an almost irresistible appeal. It is an appeal that is difficult to define when we are first confronted by a new-born pup. blind, deaf and wriggling in a most ungainly fashion, but one which is so intensified by the time the furry bundle makes its first unsteady steps into a strange and novel world, that we are spellbound. So effective is the enchantment that we are prepared to forgive almost anything. Ruined carpets, teeth imprints in furniture, the chewed remnants of our most treasured possessions, even puddles in the most unexpected places, all pale into insignificance under the influence of a pair of limpid, plaintive eyes peering from a crop of frequently very dishevelled fur.
So it is that otherwise sensible, rational human beings find themselves making ridiculous cooing noises in the middle of the night to pacify a yelping, whining creature intent on exercising his vocal chords... Tovább

So it is also, that the same human beings are seen performing the most extraordinary contortions in an attempt to coax some reluctant puppy away from the warmth of a fireside chair and out into the hostile elements, to fulfil its natural functions.
This is the kind of charm, which is not easily conveyed in words but which becomes immediately apparent in the superb colour photographs of this book. The reader cannot fail to succumb to a magic which is peculiar to young animals and about which they are best left, as here, to speak for themselves. Vissza
