About the author_
Stephen Bazire graduated from Bath University in 1976 with an honours degree in Pharmacy. Over the next few years he worked as a community pharmacist in Bristol, Lecturer in Pharmacy Practice at Bath University and as Staff Pharmacist at Barrow Hospital in Bristol. In 1986 he moved to Norwich and is now Principal Pharmacist for the Norfolk Mental Health Care NHS Trust and learning disabilities section of Norwich Community Health Partnership NHS Trust, and is based at Hellesdon Hospital in Norwich, England. He is also a teacher-practitioner for the School of Pharmacy, University of London, a committee member of the UK Psychiatric Pharmacy Group and editor of the Group's Bulletin.
• this book contains an extraordinary amount of prescribing and management detail packed into a small space I would strongly recommend this book as a cheap, up-to-date and easily accessible daily reference to all psychiatrists and trainees' (J Psychopharm 1992, 6, 284)
• 7 know of no other work that could compete' (Pharmaceut J1992, 51)
• 'This is a neat and useful letter book which gives shorthand comments on the efficacy and safety of available psychotropic drugs This should prove a useful bookfor both trainees and practitioners' (Intl Clin Psychopharmaco 1993)
• 'This book is a very interesting collection of well-referenced prescribing notes about drugs used in psychological medicine It is often difficult to choose between a series ofeconomical regularly updated books on drugs and a large reference work, but those with a special interest in psychological medicine will welcome this as a pocket guide (MIMS, March 1993)
• I found this a very helpful little book that perfectly achieves what it sets out to do: that is provide an 'aide memoir 'for the prescriber of psychotropic drugs. As psychotropic drugs are not only used but also abused, and inappropriate prescribing can lead to serious, occasionally fatal, consequences, one has to welcome any help for the prescriber threatened by the possibility of overlooking some mysterious contraindications or drug interactions. This well-presented and cheap pocket handbook can be highly recommended for every practising psychiatrist.
