PROTEIN GROWTH BY PLÁNT BREEDING Edited by A. BÁLINT The supply of world population with more meat, milk, eggs and plánt products of higher protein content can be promoted by increasing the protein content of the more important crops and improving the ratio of the fundamental aminoacids (lysine, tryptophan, methionins) in proteins. The Department of Plánt Improvement, University of Agricultural Sciences, Gödöllő (Hungary) endeavoured to realize this aim by increasing the protein content of maize, rye and peas, and to develop a better amino-acid composition in proteins. The method used in the case of maize and rye was the crossing the species, while regarding maize and peas several mutagenes were employed. The application of these methods yielded 2 - 4 per cent increase in the protein content of several plánt species; besides, results were obtained in improving the aminoacid composition in a selection of variants. The volume renders account of the results and methods elaborated... Tovább
