The International Conference on Industrial Economics, held on 14-17 April, 1970 in Budapest, provided a succesful fórum for bringing together eminent economists from both capitalist and socialist countries. The main themes of the Conference were the following: longrange planning in industry, productivity and efficiency, enterprise behaviour and decision-making. At the Opening Session Prof. Tinbergen, first holder of the Nobel prize in economics, reported in his address on the planning for international development, Academician Hachaturov on the economic reform in the USSR, and Academician Friss on planning and economic reform in Hungary. Many aspects of Western experience are discussed in the papers and comments delivered by American, British, Dutch and Germán contributors, while speakers from Hungary and other socialist countries deal with industrial planning, factors of productivity growth, economy of fixed assets, concentration and specialization, enterprise behaviour, the...
