The main thing is to get an education. A career The end justifies any means! Am I degraded by running around getting books for my principal, Proíessor Orochev? Or by listening to the professor scoffing at my lack of talent? Of course notl I, Yevgeny Stepanov, can stand it! That man Orochev is working, worrying for me, doesn't sleep nights, puts all his energy, intellect and passión into it! The fool is fascinated! He forgets everything else! At last the thesis is presented. Post-graduate student Stepanov is a Master of Science! Yevgeny Stepanov's brilliant dissertation on paleolithic art is published. But who really wrote the book? Who is the reál author, the talented scholar, and who is the empty-headed, swindling mountebank? What are the feelings of Professor Orochev who has given his labours to another? What are the feelings of Stepanov's father when he learns the truth about his beloved son? How does Stepanov's young wife, pretty, clever Motya Chichkanova, withstand the blow? These are the problems raised by Genady Gohr in his short but exciting növel Professor Orochev's Delusion.
Genady Gohr's present home is in Leningrád. He; was born in 1907 in Eastern Siberia and spent his childhood in the Transbaikal region. Graduated Leningrád Un i vers ily in 1930 and fi ve years later the Academy of Art Studies. For many years studied ethnography and heard lectures by Steinberg and Bogoraz, Russia's leading ethnographers. His major study was paleolithic art, the art of the northern peoples, a subject on which he has written several books. Beginning with the early thirties many of his books have been published in the U.S.S.R., among them Carry Me Along, River; The Island Will Be Discovered, Unknown Spring, The Youth from a Distant River. Professor Orochev's Delusioti is one of his latest. Vissza
