Alan Muhlemann has been involved in production and operational research as a researcher and lecturer for twenty years. He joined the Management Centre, University of Bradford', in 1981 and in 1987 was appointed Profeisor of Operations Management. His principal interests are in production planning and control, the application of computers in production/operations management, and non-\ manufacturing appli?at!pns of POM.
J.olin Oakland joined thé Management GentreT^-Unlversity of Bradford, in 1979 after worJ<irfg in industry as a production manager controlling a "w.ide range of plant and proceisses,. afid. a'^argé, workforce. He is the author,of the" extremely successful texts Statistijcal Process and C'ontriDi, now in its-seco^ edition, and Total Quality Management. In 1987 he was appointed to the Exxon Chemicol-Chair in Total Quality -Management at the Maniement Centre and now -fieads the Europeap Centre for XQM, .a .groVp funded entirely by industrial organizations.
Keith Lockyer has always been closely iriterested in problems 'at jthe point of production',. After twenty years in industry, working mostly as a production manager, he applied his practical experience to teaching and research, becoming successively Principal Lecturer at the Polytechnic of Central London, Senior Lecturer at Loughborough University and, from 1973 until his retirement.
