WHEN, in 1919, Pierre Auguite Renoir died in the south of France, the critic Ehe Fa are wrote, is as if the sun had aone out of the sky. ' Indeed, no other painter saw life sc happily or caught more enchantingly the lyrical mood of Paris at the turn of the century. Renc'r's paintings remain a constant reiicshment, the last great spontaneous song celebrating the good and natural things of life.
Renoir's world of picnics and dances, flower-faced children, and some of the most beautiful women ever painted come? radiantly alive in this volume. There are more than fifty pages of illustrations, of which thirty pages are in full color. Stx of these color reproductions are double-page size.
