Walter Petrigo was born in Belgrade, Yugoslavia and came to Calgary, Alberta in the early fifties. He is a master photographer whose achievements have won acclaim and distinction throughout the world. His work has been represented in exhibitions in Canada and many foreign countries, including the U.S.A., India, China, Czechoslovakia, Holland, Italy, Great Britain, Australia, Africa, etc.; and has received many major awards and citations.
Petrigo's photographs have been featured in numerous major international publications, including Time, Life. National Geographic, Reader's Digest, Macleans, Chatelaine, Weekend, Canadian to mention only a few. Many distinguished dignitaries have been portrayed by Mr. Petrigo, including Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Robert Kennedy, Lester B. Pearson, John Diefenbaker, Pierre Trudeau and numerous others.

Petrigo's professional credentials are exceptionally impressive. To list only a few, he holds the Master of Photography Craftsman degree of the Professional Photographers of America, and is a Master of Photographic Arts of the Professional Photographers of Canada; he is a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain, a distinction awarded in recognition of the highest standard of achievement in the art and science of photography.
Petrigo has appeared as guest lecturer at innumerable professional photographers' meetings throughout Canada and the United States, and is frequently requested to participate in seminars and panels on photography. He has also judged many national and international print shows and salons. He has taken a particular interest in teaching photography to both beginning and advanced students at Mount Royal College in Calgary for five yearsi and to professional photographers at Winona School of Professional Photography in Indiana, U.S.A.
Special recognition from the people and Government of Alberta was awarded Petrigo in 1974 for "Excellence" in his field. One of Petrigo's photographs was selected by the Canada Post Office for a stamp commemorating Calgary's Centennial in 1975. The Public Archives of Canada selected 25 of Petrigo's photographs to represent contemporary photography in Canada for this era.
'Petrigo's Alberta" is the result of many feelings and moods of a photographer and of Alberta itself. Many happenings have been expressed in a candid, relaxed way stressing the importance of people instead of cold concrete. Throughout "Petrigo's Alberta" the pace of life and reality dominate. The photo-journalistic and artistic interpretations are blended to give a unique quality to "Petrigo's Alberta".
