In San Diego you can join in the many activities that earned it the moniker Sports Town U.S.A. You can catch a wave and ride it into shore. You can pedal a bicycle along miles of specially marked bike paths. You can tee off on some of the finest golf courses in the world. Or you can watch professionals play and cheer your favorite team.
In San Diego you can marvel at the diversity of life at the world-famous San Diego Zoo, learn about the history of aviation at the aerospace museum in Balboa Park, transport yourself back in time with a Shakespearean play, or place a bet on the horses at the Del Mar Race Track. At night you can take in a concert, tour the waterfront in a horse-drawn carriage, or laugh until you cry at a comedy revue. Or you can leave the neon behind to stroll along a beach and watch the sun sink slowly into a glistening sea.

Accompanying Simpson's photographs and Jensen's text are selected quotations from several notable San Diegans, past and present. Raymond Chandler, Max Miller, Helen Hunt Jackson, Jonas Salk, and many others help articulate the profound and often inexpressible feelings San Diegans have for their city.
