He "flew the line" for all but 11 months of a 26-year career, during which he accumulated over 7,000 hours in aircraft vintages F-86 through F-15. He flew two combat tours in southeast Asia in the RF-4D and F-4E. Colonel Handley is a member of The Red River Valley Fighter Pilots Association and a MiG killer.
