Perth and Fremantle, past and present, and seen through rare panoramic photographs — in black and white from the 1920s to the 1960s and in glorious colour in 1986.
Some scenes show dramatic changes, others reflect a timelessness linking yesterday to today and endowing a charm that is the essence of Western Australia. Sweeping
wide-angle photographs in a collector's volume which opens out into magnificent four-page fold-out panoramas.

Perth on the magnificent Swan River. From country centre to thriving, modern city. And Fremantle. From pioneer settlement to home for the yachts, crews and spectators assembled for the America's Cup challenge. PERTH AND FREMANTLE — A PICTORIAL CONTRAST contains a rare double look. Images from the 1920s to the 1960s — printed from carefully preserved, treasured negatives — contrast with today's sweeping views in glorious colour, captured through the lens of an incomparable Swiss-crafted, Australian-designed panoramic camera. Nothing shows both the constant beauty and dramatic change over the last 60 years better than these superb fold-out panoramas.
Joan Stanbury, journalist and corporate communications consultant, was born in Bunbury, Western Australia. In 1959 she represented Western Australia in the Miss Australia Quest and became the first Miss Australia from that state for 33 years. She trained as a teacher, but changed careers in her 20s to become a journalist with WA Newspapers. Later she worked with the Canberra Times. Today she lives in Sydney with her family, however, with parents in Bunbury and many friends throughout WA, she is a frequent visitor. Researching and writing Penh and Fremantle — A Pictorial Contrast served to rekindled her love affair with her home city — sentiments that are warmly reflected in the text of this book. Vissza
