About the Author of MONTPARNASSE PARADISE Bora in Paris, Maurice Dekobra lectured at the Berlin University before World War I. During the war he won military honors as liaison captain with the Indián and British armies. He spent three years in Asia, Africa, covered Europe from the Siberian steppes to the Ibérián peninsula. Among the most profilic writers of his generation, Maurice Dekobra's books have sold more than 4,000,000 copies. This may very well be a record for a modern writer. In 1920, on a visit to the United States to cover the presidential elections, he was consecrated by James Cox as "King of Humor". There seems no limit to Dekobra's versatility. He has been an art critic, has acted as special correspondent for all the leading Paris papers, has found time to translate Defoe, Jack London, O. Henry and other famous authors. He has written numerous travel books in addition to thirty-five novels which have been translated into 29 languages, including three Indián dialects.... Tovább

He has written numerous travel books in addition to thirty-five novels which have been translated into 29 languages, including three Indián dialects. Dekobra's qualities as a writer are distinguished by his continental candor, his starting observations, the uncanny and laughing accuracy with which he characterizes his fellow creatures. "The future," wrote F. de Tessan, French critic and one-time Minister of State, "will recapture in Maurice Dekobra's impassioned stories an exact picture of the twentieth century." At present, Mr. Dekobra is in the United States where he makes his home in Hollywood, which no doubt reminds him of the gaiety, the detached and heightened living of Montparnasse.
