The information in the book is useful not only for those operating in the construction industry, but alsó to the university students, technological institutions, management institutions and managers of the industry as a whole, as it provides a good understanding of the world of construction, so essential for every progressive manager. The author, Mr. P.P. Dharwadker, is considered one of the leaders in the construction industry in the country today. He was the Chairman-cum-Managing Director of National Buildings Construction Corporation, a premier conatruction organisation in the country for eight years. Mr. Dharwadker is a graduate of the Coliege of Engineering, University of Poona, and is a fellow of the Institution of Engineers, India. He is alsó a member of several other institutions. The author has behind him, a long and varied experience in construction, including inland and foreign contracts. He started his career with National Defence Academy Project, Khadakwasla in 1951. He was, thereafter, for somé time, in Hindustan Steel Limited at Rourkeia. He alsó worked in Fertiliser Corporation of India at Naya Nangal and Trombay, in various capacities from 1955-1961. He was appointed as Chief Engineer (Planning) in National Mineral Deveiopment Corporation in 1961 and was responsible for planning, designing and execution of several mineral deveiopment projects. He took over as General Superintendent of Works, Chief Construction Engineer in Hindustan Copper Limited in 1968 and was responsible for the major part of the execution of Khetri Copper Project, during his stay there. Mr. Dharwadker has had the unique opportunity of having worked on both the sides of the table as a Chief Engineer on the client's side and as a Chief Executive of a contracting company. An authority on the subject of construction technology and management, the author has a long and meritoríous standing in the profession.
