The greatest humorist of the twentieth century, a highly successful lyricist, and a master of English prose, Sir Pelham Grenville Wode-house, died at his Long Island home at the age of 93. He was at work on his 97th novel. The picture above is a rare portrait of Wode-house taken in 1919 shortly after the stories in this collection were written.
