From a bird's-eye view Malaysia spreads out like an endless green carpet: around seventy percent of the land area is covered by some of the world's oldest and richest rainforest. Rice cultivation forms patchworks throughout the peninsula, while the massive rubber and oil palm estates seemingly extend forever. Human settlements cluster along the rivers and shores in Sabah and Sarawak, forming a counterpoint to the impressive natural beauty of these East Malaysian states. Guido Alberto Rossi and the other photographers have captured all this, as well as coastal regions and the urban landscapes of Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, Penang and the other cities of Malaysia.

From the glittering Petronos Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur, among the tallest buildings in the world, over the disputed Spratly Islands in the South China Sea and through the clouds to Southeast Asia's highest peak, Mt. Kinabalu — Over Malaysia presents a unique view of this spectacular country aboard the helicopters of the Royal Malaysian Air Force.
After a general introduction to Malaysia, the country is surveyed in three sections — The Peninsula, Sarawak and Sabah, each with a short preface. Informative captions provide background information and guide the reader's eye over the photographs to pick out the points of interest in these fascinating images.
Malaysia is a nation of diverse cultures and striking contrasts: modern cities, above all Kuala Lumpur, ever growing outwards and upwards; idyllic resorts; historic cities such as Melaka and Penang; colonial hill stations; the longhouses of Sarowak and Sabah; and expanses of rainforest which cover around 70% of the land area. All this is dramatically captured here in over 125 aerial photographs, showing the patchworks of rice cultivation, the rubber and oil palm estates, and the human settlements on river bank and sea shore which form a counterpoint to the natural beauty around them.
