ROYAL COURT WRITERS SERIES The Royal Court Writers Series was launched in 1981 to celebrate 25 years of the English Stage Company and 21 years since publication of the first Methuen Modern Play. Published to coincide with each production, the series fulfils the dual function of programme and playscript. OTHER WORLDS Premiered at the Royal Court Theatre in 1983, Robert Holman's new play is set on the North Yorkshire coast at the end of the eighteenth century and shows the deep - and even violent - divisions between the people of a small fishing and farming community as they react to the threat of a French invasion. ROBERT HOLMAN Robert Holman was born in 1952 in Guisborough, Cleveland, where he was also educated. His first play was written as homework for school and, as a member of Teesside Youth Theatre, he acted and directed.
