Old Proverbs Never Die, They Just Diversify represents the second collection of proverb transformations (or anti-proverbs) in the English language. The first collection, Twisted Wisdom: Modern Anti-Proverbs (1999), was also created by Anna T. Litovkina and Wolfgang Mieder. The anti-proverbs for the present collection (over 5000 texts based on 580 traditional Anglo-American proverbs) were drawn primarily from books and articles oh puns, one-liners, toasts, wisecracks, quotations, maxims, jokes, and graffiti. While many of these humorous texts are based on mere puns and wordplay, there are also numerous satirical anti-proverbs that contain revealing social comments: A condom a day keeps AIDS away: Matrimony is the root of all evil: To err is human - to totally muck things up needs a computer; A pill in time saves nine months.
