About the book
This is the third, expanded and revised edition of the author's original book, The Finite Element Method in Structural and Continuum Mechanics. During the seven years of the Second Edition, the powerful finite element method has been developed for wider applications than were originally conceived. This has largely been achieved through a widening of the mathematical basis of the method in a manner suitable for engineers and physicists. New and more efficient procedures are now possible.
The book contains a comprehensive coverage of the 'new look' in finite element analysis, as well as identifying the possibilities of the method in such important fields as fluid mechanics and electromagnetics. New chapters (dealing with, for example, fluid mechanics) are therefore introduced and many of the present ones are completely rewritten to take account of the developments. There is much new material on the generalization of finite element concepts (Chapter 3), 'violation of... Tovább

There is much new material on the generalization of finite element concepts (Chapter 3), 'violation of continuity rules' and 'inexact integration' (Chapter 11), 'hybrid' elements (Chapter 12), plasticity and visco-plasticity in non-linear materials (Chapter 18), fluid mechanics (Chapter 22) and singularities and infinite elements (Chapter 23). A completely new final chapter, outlining some of the most recent aspects of programming techniques current in the USA and Europe, is written by Professor R. L. Taylor, University of California, Berkeley, USA, an eminent specialist in this field.
Because of the thoroughness of these changes, and because the book is now approximately 50 per cent larger. THE FINITE ELEMENT METHOD, Third Edition, can justifiably be regarded as a virtually new book in this vital, complex subject. Vissza
