Numerical Methods in Fluid Dynamics
This book is a collection of original papers
by leading Soviet experts in numerical
simulation of complex fluid-dynamic'processes.
The authors discuss a wide variety of models:
incompressible fluid, plasma, overpressure and
large deformations which produce shock waves
and develop instabilities, taking into account
the effects of thermal radiation and viscosity j ;
that lead to the formation of boundary layers.
The variety of physical processes treated
is mathched by the wealth of algorithmical
approaches ranging from direct statistical
simulation to approximate analytic
solutions. The book presents the main
tendencies in the current numerical methods
of fluid dynamics: difference schemes, which
allow approximation of drastically nonlinear
and nonequilibrium processes, the particle-in-cell
method, efficient implicit schemes based on
the concepts of splitting, nonregular grids,
and direct statistical approximation. d

Much attention is given to theoretical aspects
of numerical models: to the qualitative study
of solutions to the classical Navier-Stokes
equations and nonclassical equations which
change type, and to the stability criteria
of difference schemes. j
The book will prove useful to those actively
engaged in theoretical and engineering
computations, to teachers at universities and
technical colleges, to students and post-graduates.
