About the Book *

"No Road Maps" is a book for dog lovers, bird watchers and people who believe in families and libraries. The author has written a warm and lighthearted account of flying and families and farming; about restoring homes and building libraries; about the Civil War in a small Southern town and World War II in an 8th grade classroom.
Margaret P. Allen, a 1920 Vassar English major whose mapless roads led her from newspaper work and politi- | cal public relations to a Southern country town, where I she lived on a farm and used her public relations knowledge to help build its libraries, has written with charm and a sense of humor about being 90 years of age and enjoying gelling there.

About the Author
Until now, the author has been loo busy living the past 70 or so years of her life to write about them. Growing up female but well-educated in the early twentieth century, she probably led a more interesting life than many of her generation. But interest is where you find it.
Now at age 94, Margaret P.Allen has written with enjoyment and insight of her twentieth century lifetime, from the days of the earliest automobiles to those of space travel; from her New England childhood to life in her husband's native small-town West Virginia, where she coped with floods, farmhands, livestock and libraries.
Mrs. Allen's memoirs are those of a woman who enjoys life's challenges, who is not afraid to try new roads, and who looks back with happiness and a sense of humor. Vissza
