Fülszöveg

Two of the major basic techniques of analysis in engineering science today are fluid mechanics and thermodynamics. While much has been written from the two separate viewpoints, it is only recently that a systematic description of the thermodynamics of fluid flow has appeared. This text is designed to provide an introduction to the combined íield. An introductory chapter sets forth the author's choice of deflnitions, units and thermodynamic nomenclature. The second chapter deals with frictional flow of fluids in pipes, as it afíects pressure loss with emphasis on the local action. Chapters III and IV introduce the fundamental physical principles commonly known as continuity, energy and momentum. With these tools at hand, specialised cases are treated in the succeeding chapters on incompressible fluids, perfect gases, constant-area adiabatic flow, varyingarea adiabatic flow, shock regions, flow measurement and control, and diabatic flow. A final chapter deals with propulsion systems.... Tovább

With these tools at hand, specialised cases are treated in the succeeding chapters on incompressible fluids, perfect gases, constant-area adiabatic flow, varyingarea adiabatic flow, shock regions, flow measurement and control, and diabatic flow. A final chapter deals with propulsion systems. There are over five hundred numbered equations in the course of the text, as well as many useful tables and eh art s embodying recent information. At the end of each chapter there are appropriate problems. This material is extremely valuable as the hasis for further study in flow processes in chemical engineering, steady flow combustion, aircraft propulsion systems and fluid transport. Vissza
