Born in 1924 in a snnall village Vallah near Lalian in the then tehsil Chiniot (on Chenab) in Pakistan, Dr H.L. Chitkara grew up in a family practising and dispensing Unani medicine. He had a consistently distinguished academic career culminating in graduation in pure and applied mathematics, together with Hons (Advanced Course) in English literature from the prestigeous Government College, Lahore. He took up a small job in a Govt, accounts office which he resigned but was obliged to take it up again in Delhi after the partition. While in service, he was fascinated by the study and practice of homoeopathy. There being no recognised college, he studied it in private classes, first under the late Rai Sahib Dr Daya Shankar Kaistha, M.D. (Michigan, USA) and then late Dr. V.D. Kashyap, MBBS, a convert homoeopath from Lahore. Appearing in the first examination of D.H.S. (Diploma in Homoeopathic Science) held by the Delhi Board, he topped the list of successful... Tovább

He reisgned his job and got completely involved in multifarious activities of homoeopathy — academic, Journalistic, and professional organisation, alongwith private practice. For more than 35 years, he was successively Chief Edition of the Homoeopathic Sandesh, of Journal of the Homoeopathic Medical Associatin of India and Reisdent Editor of the Homoeopathic Heritage. Besides homoeopathy, his primary interests are the study of alternative medicine, literature and languages (English, Urdu, Persian, Hindi, Punjabi, Marathi, rudiments of Arabic, French and Bengali), Indian philosophy (advaite, vedanta) yoga and occult sciences. He is 74 1998 and a bachelor.
