Myles Edwin Lee, M.D.
Near Misses in Cardiac Surgery, written on the premise that teamwork and communication facilitate the effective delivery of cardiovascular surgical care, recounts 40 true cases in which a potentially fatal diagnostic or therapeutic error or oversight underwent quick analysis and correction by the cardiac surgical team.
This book presents a synopsis of each case in the expectation that the reader will determine the cause of the problem and solve it before the patient's demise. The next section identifies the problem and how it was actually resolved by the surgical team. Each case concludes with detailed discussion and selected references.
Written to challenge the reader that the patient's fate depends upon his or her ability to make appropriate decisions quickly, this book will provide clinical insights, not only for cardiac surgeons, but for anesthesiologists, cardiologists, internists, residents, medical students, and nurses as well.
