They have been written by the most competent specialized Greek archaeologists. The Acropolis
Immortal symbol of the ancient Greek spirit, the Acropolis of Athens has remained a venerable shrine of worship for the whole world, while its museum, despite its small size, is considered one of the most important of its kind in the world, for the korai, the sculptures of the pre-Classical Parthenon and of the older temples of the site. The guide is not limited to the Acropohs museum alone, but takes the reader satisfactorily to the outstanding monuments of the sacred rock, where the principal styles of Greek architecture are represented. The superb metopes of the Parthenon are presented with all due attention, those, of course, that have not fallen prey to the robbers of antiquities. The site and the works of art acquire in the pages of the book their natural unity and display the historical, artistic and rehgious significance of the Acropolis.

PUBLICATIONS

Art and Civilization
The National Archaeological Museum, the largest of Greece, is internationally considered to be the richest in Greek works of art. All the periods of Greek civilization are represented in it, from the Eariy Neolithic period to the era of Roman domination, and its various collections form an immense whole. Marble Cycladic idols, gold Mycenaean funeral gifts, imposing kouroi and elegant funeral stelai, lovely geometric vases, others with red and black figures, outstanding pieces of Archaic, Classical and Hellenistic sculpture, the latest acquisitions from Late Helladic Thera, the epigraphic and numismatic collections, have fixed the Greek past in its monumental expressions, which remain ineffaceable in the memory of the reader. The volume about the National Archaeological Museum furnishes something more positive than memory: the reliefs of artistic photographs of the exhibits, presenting their worth in the best way. And something more than a guide, a detailed introduction to the seductive evolution of the inimitable Greek art.
Corinth
One of the most important and largest Greek cities of antiquity, Corinth, which retained its prestige also in Christian times, is presented in the pages of the volume Ancient Corinth. Despite the calamities, which most of the monuments of the Archaic, Classical, Hellenistic and even Roman times, have undergone, the ruins which have remained from the temple of Apollo, the theatre, the agora, the stoas and the fountains, help in the reconstruction of the city's ancient prosperity. Monuments and finds from the excavations are presented in this volume with every care and perfect artistic rendering, offering the reader a panoramic picture of ancient Corinth. Vissza
