INTRODUCTION
The objects exhibited in the National Museum. Athens, include masterpieces of Greek art, dating drom the 3rd millennium B.C. to the 5th century A.D.
Their chronological classification in association with the architecture and pottery of each period presents the following picture :
A. PREHISTORY 2600-2000 B.C. Early Helladic period.
Architecture : Early Helladic houses of Thessaly. Pottery : Sesklo and Dimini ware. Sculpture : Clay, stone and marble figurines. 2000- 1600 B.C. Middle Helladic period (Bronze Age).
Architecture : Dwellings of the «megaron» type. Stone-lined quadrilateral cist-graves. Pottery : Minyan ware (monochrome, matt-painted vases).
B. EARLY HISTORY 1600- 1200 B.C. Late Helladic period. Mycenaean civilization. Linear B script.
Architecture : Acropoleis and Palaces : Mycenae, Tiryns, Pylos, Gla. Tholos tombs : Mycenae and Orchomenos. Pottery : Amphoras and vases with representations of animals, birds and plants... Tovább
