Born in Toyama in 1^44, NAKAGlWA TAKESHI is Professor of Architecture at Waseda University. He completed the doctoral program in Architectural History at Waseda University's School of Science and Engineering, receiving a Doctorate of Engineering in 1986. Having joined the faculty as an assistant ill 1971, he assumed his current position in 1984." He has also served as field director of „a number of . architectural investigations: in Sri Lanka and South India; at the excavations at Abusir in Egypt; at the Palace of Hue in Vietnam; and in Cambodia, where he heads the Japanese Government Team for Safeguarding Angkor Monument. He was decorated in 1998 with Cambodia's Royal Meijl^l of Sahametreifor his service to the latter project, and his work at Hue was recognized in 2000 with a medal from tlie Vietnamese government.
