Musical Life in Germany
Germany is still a land of music. More than 8 million people active in amateur musical life, another 80,000 professiorial musicians and 300,000 people employed in the music industry show that music, in its many forms, means something to almost everyone here, even if they may be very different things. In this book we outline various areas of musical life - from music in education and training, through church music, folk and entertainment music, the Jazz, Rock and Pop scene, to the orchestras and music theatre; we also discuss the music industry, music on radio and television and music in foreign cultural policy. After the reunification of the two German states the process of growing together again started, and we are now re-establishing our common historical, intellectual and cultural heritage, and all we have in common generally. In that process music, like every kind of culture, can play an essential part in helping to create identities.
