by business, by emotion. The automobile deserves to be preserved and remembered!'
Now Tom Burnside has photographed one hundred of these outstanding motorcars and the dean of automobile writers, Ken Purdy, has provided informative and entertaining biographies for them in this magnificently illustrated volume.
In period, these illustrious carriages range from an 1899 De Dion-Bouton tricycle to a 1938 Rolls-Royce town car. They include rich men's and poor men's machines, American, British and Continental. Some are the ancestors of cars still in production or at least in use; many are survival pieces from a more elegant age—one that prized and could afford to pay for craftsmanship; afew will be remembered only by connoisseurs. All belong in the pantheon of the Western world's favorite mechanical gods.
Full-color, full-page photographs and double-page spreads put them all on glorious exhibit while smaller photographs highlight interesting or unusual details such as hubcaps, dashboards, woodwork, brasswork, radiator emblems and the like.
A true collector's volume, Motorcars of the Golden Past is a handsome addition to every gentleman's library and one which automobile enthusiasts especially will treasure.
