STREAKED WEAVER
from other weavers in all plumages by dark streaks on chest.
Voice: Like the Baya Weaver, Habits: Frequents open country, grassy marshes and paddy fields. Moves through the terrain in large flocks, feeding among tall grasses. Nests in dense colonies quite different from Baya Weaver: the nest is a rounded (not elongated) ball with a short entrance, placed low among grasses and bushes. An active weaver colony is a delightful spectacle of birds flying to and from the site building, calling and displaying.
Dlitrlbution: Oriental region. A local end generally uncom- ' mon resident In parts of the mainland; recently recorded breeding in SingBpore.

nesting habits much lil<e the Streaked Weaver. A low-density species which does not occur in any great numbers within its small range. Seems to be declining in numbers and is now regarded as near-threatened with global extinction.
