The Romanesque nave and crypts, the Gothic choir and La Merveille comprise a vast religious and artistic ensemble whose beauty and importance were unrivalled throughout Christendom. At the foot of the abbey, the village with its half-timbered houses are clustered inside an astounding ring of fortifications built on sand. Rising gloriously above the waters of the bay, the Mont Saint Michel is one of the most monumental and remarkable of the World Heritage sites.
The "Itinéraires " sériés, designed as a guide for cultural tourism, invites the visitor to discover the highroads and byways of France's national heritage.
