This course is intended for intermediate to advanced students who have already studied English with somé degree of success but who know that, if they were placed in an English speaking environment, they would be unable to understand the native speaker's rapid conversation with its difficult rhythms and liaisons, or to cope with the very idiomatic speech which is seldom presented in an English course. The course consists of ten units, each containing a main dialogue, a supplementary dialogue and drills. The main dialogues consist of business situations involving a main character- a European businessman-from the time he first arrives in London until the time he becomes thoroughly at home in his new environment. The supplementary dialogues cover situations such as arrival at the customs, a visit to the bank, dinner at a restaurant, giving a lecture and chairing a meeting. The drills highlight various points of the language used in the dialogues.
