The Sunset book editors and photographers traveled more than 35,000 miles and spent more than two years in planning and research —to create a book that not only tells you about Mexico but shows you Mexico in a fresh, new way. Most of the photographs have never been published before. During the many months of personal travel in Mexico for this volume, our editors made use of small planes, boats, autos, buses . . . horses and burros . . . and even hiked in to some remote areas on foot. Thus you will find described here, in words and pictures, not only the well-known areas of Mexico but also the primitive back areas such as the Hidalgo villages, the jungles in the states of Chiapas and Tabasco, the Paricutin Volcano, the Usamacinto River, the territory of the Lacandon Indians, and other out-of-the-way places . . . many of them rarely visited by civilized man.
