Pueblitos of adobe - mud and staw bricks baked in the sun - contrast with splendid cities, where modern skyscrapers mix with colonial monuments. The great archaeological sites are the precious legacy left by a dozen or so civilizations that succeeded one another over thousands of years. The whole is garnished with spicy dishes of chiles and maize - god and food - intoxicating tequila, pulque and mezcal and rivers of foaming cerveza. And who can ignore on^os and peyote, for closer contact with the gods, and mysterious potions of magical herbs to drive out siclmess and bad luck. All of this is accompanied by the romantic music of the mariachi. The list is never-ending because Mexico is all this and much more. A bridge between north and south America, it is a huge crescent moon descending from the United States to Guatemala: 1,972,547 square kilometres, from the deserts of the far north to the tropical Caribbean beaches. Sounds, fragrances, colours, aromas, flavours, harmonies, tastes, noise and words enter your blood, never to be forgotten. A heady cocktail that constantiy seduces, enchants, bewitches and fascinates. Mexico is no one-off experience: Mexico is forever.
