MEXICO
CLIFF NANCY HOLLENBECK
FOREWORD BYJAMES A. MICHENER ESSAY BY RICHARD J. PIETSCHMANN
Mexico speaks of romance and enchantment, of brightly dressed dancers and curious folk art, of tropical beaches and isolated hidian peoples, of ancient ruins and colonial architecture and modern high-rises.
Cliff and Nancy Hollenbeck's cameras have captured the \'ibrant essence of Mexican life, from the bustling cultural and economic center, Mexico City, to the smaller but equally fascinating cities of Oaxaca and Guadalajara. This photographic odyssey through the country's distinct regions includes, as well, the beautiful beach resorts of Acapulco, Cancún, and Puerto Vallarta and the colonial cities of Mérida and Guanajuato. Of course, no portrait of Mexico could be complete without images of the great remains of the Aztec and Maya civilizatíons. Chichén Itzá and Teotihuacán are just two of the better-known archaeological sites Cliff and Nancy have explored and captured on film.

The photographic team of Cliff and Nancy Hollenbeck has worked and traveled throughout Mexico for more than twenty years. Their extensive knowledge of the country, its people, and their customs is magnificently revealed, not only in the images they have taken, but also in the preface they have written. Through the publication of their book. Cliff and Nancy hope to give something back to the many people of Mexico who have contributed so much to their own photography and travels.
Author Richard J. Pietschmann has been a freelance writer for fifteen years. His extensive travels in Mexico, extending over two decades, have enabled him to write a personal, anecdotal journey through this country he loves so much.
James A. Michener, who wrote the foreword, is a world-renowned author of nearly forty books, covering such topics as art, and novels ranging from South Pacific to Poland to Mexico.
Like mariachi music, the photographs and words take on a rhythm of their own, moving through the land in a dance that can only be MEXICO.
Front jacltel photograph: A Mexican folkloric dancer wears the brightly colored traditional ribbon dress from the state ofjalisco. Back jacket piiotograph:'Vhe Municipal Palace of San José del Cabo, on the tip of the Baja Peninsula, is dressed in flags and streamers for celebration of one of México's many holidays. An inscription written in 1730 on the palace tower tells of the town's founding.
